Alexander Symonds – Business Relationship Manager
I have been in the construction industry for over 11 years and I am the Business Relationship Manager at surveying company, Alexander Symonds. My role involves building and maintaining connections with clients and industry bodies, optimising business processes, as well as undertaking marketing and strategic initiatives. My skill set is both creative and technical, allowing me to ‘think outside the box’. I have a degree in Interior Architecture and have held roles varying from Estimating to Business Development to Digital Engineering. I am on the Civil Contractors Federation SA Next Generation Committee because of my interest in technology, BIM and digital engineering, and I am passionate about knowledge sharing. I am involved with various South Australian boards, councils and committees and I find that they all help to inform each other. I am passionate about creating awareness around the range of career opportunities available and encouraging students to find out more about the pathways they can take to a career in construction.

With over 20 years’ experience in design and construction management of complex water infrastructure projects, I started off like many of us as cleaning out containers and doing take offs for procurement as an undergraduate.
During a gap year, I deployed with the Army to Timore Leste for 6 months and returned to a full time site supervisor role before completing my final year of study. In 2010, I was very fortunate to be awarded the South Australian Young Professional Engineer of the Year.
Since then I have continued to manage delivery of a diverse variety of infrastructure projects including concept development, design, construction and commissioning of bulk earthworks and structural concrete, pipelines, pump stations, treatment facilities and associated infrastructure. I am now the Engineering and Development Manager, contributing engineering expertise across all of Leed’s construction projects and to the Business Acquisition Team for major tenders and proposals.

With over 15 years’ experience Tim has driven the growth of BMD’s South Australian Civil Business across multiple market sectors, and leads our urban development, infrastructure and building divisions in the state. Tim leads a highly motivated team of multiple project managers, engineers, field personnel and safety/systems support staff with passion and commitment.
His experience in Business Development, Estimating/Pre-Contracts coupled with an extensive project history with Managing Contractor, Early Contractor Involvement & Alliance Contracting, Design & Construct and traditional contract forms, ensures Tim understands the risks, opportunities and key contract deliverables for all parties throughout the project life-cycle with project values from $1m – $100m.
Tim is a positive, proactive leader in safety, quality, environmental and commercial aspects of the civil industry. Throughout his career he has driven a positive safety indicator of more than 4.4 million man hours without Lost Time Injury.
Tim is a champion of Indigenous employment, the recruitment and retention of apprentices and the drive to provide engineering excellence via Chartership being mandated for Engineers in our industry. He is also at the forefront of recognising and improving the Mental and Physical health of our industry at a state and national level.

Alison has been working in the civil construction industry in South Australia since 2008, providing assistance to project teams across the full scope of project life, tendering, design, construction and closeout. With a background in quality, she has been able to provide a high level of support and guidance to both management and site personal and is actively involved in creating positive workplace cultures.
She has been on the Women in Civil committee since 2015 and has taken a proactive level of involvement to ensure the success of the group, and joined in the Next Gen committee in 2019 to continue to expand her passion for the industry and encourage education around the diverse career options available within the sector.
AR Contracting Services P/L – Manager
My career in the civil construction industry started in 2012 with AR Contracting Services in South Australia. I joined the CCFSA Next Gen Committee in 2016, to collaborate with younger industry professionals and to promote CCF events targeted at this demographic. Most recently, the Next Gen Committee has developed a framework to actively engage younger people in our industry, so that they can share their ideas and experiences with others. These initiatives will help drive new technologies, consolidate industry relationships and ultimately, contribute to a thriving industry for current & future generations which has been really great to be a part of.

I have been in recruitment for just over 4 years, of which most of that time I have been responsible for finding candidates in the civil construction market. During that time I have spent my days speaking with various people and business’ in the civil industry and discuss challenges and success that South Australia face. Being on the Next Gen committee allows me to be a small part of making a positive change to the industry that isn’t just related to recruiting.

Managing Director of D&S Resources, a family owned company providing procurement, project management and engineering services for the construction and mining industries. Andres’ extensive knowledge and skills in corporate finance, commercial law and project management are invaluable to the success and support alongside Donoso & Sons (parent company), which has been servicing the region since 1996.
With 10 years of management experience in commercial, defence, mining and financial industries, his strong passion and specialised business acumen positions him as a great communicator across all levels from large companies/organisations to Government and related entities.

McMahon Services Australia – Construction Manager
Matt Anderson is a Construction Manager with McMahon Services Australia – Civil & Remediation Division.
Matt has been a member of the NGC for three years.
Matt joined the NGC committee after working interstate for six years. Upon coming back to his home state of SA, he wanted to build a greater network amongst other civil contractors. As a part of this, he wanted to share his experiences with others while assisting to develop the importance of participation from younger civil engineering professionals with the CCF.

BMD Constructions – Estimator / Graduate Engineer
In October 2018, I joined the civil construction industry by working with civil contractor, AR Contracting Services Pty Ltd. I work in the estimating department through tendering on civil construction projects that have gone to tender. I also assist the project team by completing on-site quality, environmental and work health safety management plans, compiling ITP and test results and preparing job costings.
I joined the NextGen committee in June 2019 and I am eager to find out more about the civil construction industry. I want to connect with other young people and to assist in organising information and networking events.
