10 things you didn't know about...

Rebecca Pickering - CCF SA Chief Executive Officer

1. An industry stalwart, Pickering is the first woman to head the male dominated peak industry body at CCF SA after pipping a legion of other candidates to the post for the role of CEO.

2. She has taken on the challenge (which is in keeping with this year’s International Women’s Day theme – Choose to Challenge) to promote positive changes. Changes that embrace inclusivity, diversity and transparency. Changes that challenge stereotypical behaviours and advocate equity, equality and parity, transcending all levels of hierarchy at work. And beyond it.

3. The new CEO wants to break away from the conservative mould of management, to effect changes that will instil a more dynamic work culture built on staff collaboration. Using a holistic approach, she is committed to identifying individual strengths and cross pollinating skills, to optimise the human resources at her disposal. For the benefit of all at CCF SA and our civil industry.

4. She operates with an open door policy so it’s alright to call her Bec. 

5. She is often heard greeting staff with “Hi mate!” and using a hands-on approach to help solve problems. From moving furniture to washing dishes.

6. Her sparse office is devoid of any pomp that reflects her position of authority. There is no shiny high back leather chair or even a standard work stool. She stands on her four-inch heels to conduct business. A discipline that must be a painful challenge to many.

7. Within weeks of taking office, she has put in place plans to have regular staff meetings, project catch-ups, and team building soirees. And not to forget… table tennis for fun and a bit of a giggle!

8. Pickering dresses to suit the occasion, her expansive wardrobe ranging from hi-vis overalls to Hollywood A-lister couture, complete with the shoes to fit. “I have these high heels for a reason – to use when needed!” she jokes. BTW, she loves leopard prints, yet does not have the courage to be dressed in zebra prints. And she will not be seen wearing pink!

9. She used to run marathons; now she does marathons of a different sort – meetings!

10. You can’t tell from looking at her that she loves to eat – but only if it is gluten-free!
